Elevate the human experience through design.
Within Our Walls and Beyond: Accessible Design
“Many designers and architects have never actually sat in a wheelchair or had to use crutches,” noted a DLR Group designer. Our brand promise to elevate the human experience through design applies to how we approach every project, and that means creating spaces that can be comfortably accessed by all. ADA standards are the bare minimum; one DLR Group designer spent a year researching accessible design, working with able-bodied people to get real feedback on the standards. Most often, the standards didn’t cut it. As designers, we therefore have a significant role in creating a world where access doesn’t hinder any individual. Read more on the evolution of accessible design in this article from Senior Associate and Architect Michael Ellars, AIA, LEED AP.
